Higher Ground

The first flowers of spring are sometimes the prettiest. After months of cold, colorless days, the bright faces of springtime flowers can make you wish you could keep the flowers all year long. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could have pretty flowers to cheer you up in winter?

It would sure be nice, but flowers don’t work that way! Without the cold, many flowers would never bloom.

It can be that way for people, too. If we never had hard times, the beautiful Fruit of the Spirit wouldn’t be able to bloom in our lives.

That’s what Joni was thinking about when she painted this mountain meadow. What parts of this painting help us know that springtime is just beginning to come? To paint this picture, Joni used watercolor paints. Watercolor paints are good for making things look wet.

Why would making things look wet help us think about the beginning of spring? Can you remember a hard time you’ve been through? What things did God teach you during that time?
