Gabe's Baptism

My friend Darlene serves at a thriving disability ministry at Manley Baptist Church in Morristown, TN. Over the past 13 years, Darlene has seen so many people with disabilities come to a thriving relationship with Christ — people like Gabe Hubbard. Gabe has cerebral palsy and faces other challenges as well. For six months, Gabe had been asking to be baptized, but the church pastor really wanted to make sure that Gabe understood the Gospel message. And so, the disability ministry team discipled Gabe, helping him to grapple the topics of sin, salvation, and baptism — until finally, the day arrived when Gabe was to be baptized. And oh my goodness, the whole church went wild! As soon as Gabe came up out of the water, the entire congregation rose in standing ovation!! There was not a dry eye in that building — and as Darlene puts it, “Our church body is so much healthier because Gabe Hubbard is in it!” Oh friend, just as a human body would be incomplete without an arm, kidney, or eye, the body of Christ needs every part of the body in order to function at its best — and that includes people with disabilities (1 Cor. 12). So, check out our Church Relations page to learn more how your church can better embrace people with disabilities.
