Wheelchair for Maria

I love the verse which says: “I will comfort [my people] and exchange their sorrow for rejoicing!”

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and I love the verse which says: “I will comfort [my people] and exchange their sorrow for rejoicing!”  It makes me think of Maria in El Salvador.  Maria has spina bifida and when she came to our Wheels for the World distribution, she was withdrawn, hiding her face in her mother’s arms.  But our volunteer physical therapist gently took Maria and started rocking her back and forth, and playing with her.  Her mother watched amazed.  No one had ever done this with her daughter.  She had always thought of her child as damaged, but with wide eyes she said, “You people treat her like a princess. And today I see my daughter through God’s eyes. To God, she truly is His Princess.”  And when Maria was seated in her new wheelchair, she sure looked like one!  When it comes to Wheels for the World, God always exchanges sorrow for joy.  Find out all about it  at joniandfriends.org.
