Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and let me tell you about my dear friend, Sandy. Sandy was living back in Texas when she learned about my breast cancer. And it didn’t surprise me when, a day or two later, I received a get-well card from her. Well, the next day, lo and behold, I get another card from Sandy. The next day, another one! Soon, her cards began to mount up, each one with Bible verses or several lines from a different hymn—wonderful notes that saw me through my battle with cancer. Sandy was following 1 Thessalonians chapter 5—she was encouraging me and building me up every day through her handwritten notes. And, hey, you can be a Sandy in the life of someone today who is recovering from cancer or dealing with some other illness. Give your friend a hug, send her an email, mail him a card, show up at his door … it’ll build them up with the love of Christ.
