Musical Rest

Hi, I'm Joni Eareckson Tada. Years ago, my piano teacher showed me how to play a musical rest. She came to a rest on the sheet music and the notes stopped. That’s when her hands arched, emotion built, and the next stanza was all the more beautiful. This idea is beautifully showcased in these words of John Rushkin. “In the melody of our life, the music is separated here and there by rests. During those rests, we foolishly believe we have come to the end of the song…yet how does a musician read the rest? Well, He counts the break with unwavering precision and places the next note with confidence, as if no pause were ever there.” Friend, maybe you’ve felt like you’ve come to the end of your song. But don’t stop singing your praise. God is counting your rest with unwavering precision. Keep your eyes on Him and the next note of your life will be full and clear.
