Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. If there's one thing I've learned about the Lord in my walk, it's that He is a good fencer. He really knows how to handle a sword—that is, the sharp saber of His Word. The Bible says that the Sword of the Spirit is the Word of God. Hebrews chapter 4 assures us, "The word of God is living and active, sharper than any double‑edged sword. It penetrates (ouch!) even to the dividing of soul and spirit … I think that's why the word of God hurts our conscience. It slices into our pride. It pierces our wrong motives. And it cuts into our selfishness. His Word will comfort, yes, but it will also hurt. You may feel like you're lying there dismembered, your soul and spirit sliced apart... but you will never, never be more whole, more spiritually complete, as when you let God's Word do its work. Today, let Jesus take the sword of the Spirit to your life.
