Recently my friend, Careen, found herself in a tight spot in a parking lot.

I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Recently my friend, Careen, found herself in a tight spot in a parking lot. When she tried to back out, a car was in her blind spot and she backed into it. Well, Careen hopped out; the other driver was young and flustered, and kept saying, “I’ve never been in a car accident. I don’t know what to do.”  Well, Careen apologized, said it was her fault, then said, “Don’t worry. It was my fault and I take full responsibility. So, let’s walk through this together.” Then Careen talked the young driver through which pictures to take, who to call, how she’d need an estimate. Careen assured her that everything would be just fine. Her gentle response drained all the tension from the young driver. Proverbs 16 says, “The wise in heart are called discerning, and gracious words promote instruction.” Yep, that’s my friend Careen. She’s an example for me, and I trust for you, too.
