God's Sheep Dogs

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. The Bible tells us over and over to put our hope and trust in God. Time and again, it’s repeated. But if we never suffered, if we never experienced affliction, disappointment, or pain, we would have no reason to put our hope or trust in God. Hope and trust presume that you’ve got something forcing you, something asking, almost demanding you to place your hope and trust in someone who can save and deliver you. And the something forcing you to do that is suffering. No wonder we can join the psalmist and say, “Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep your word… now I am learning your statutes.” With all my heart, friend, I want you to see that your afflictions today are the sheep dogs. They are snapping at your heels. Sheep dogs driving you down the road to Calvary where, otherwise, you might not be inclined to go. So, give thanks in all things, even suffering.
