Drink Offered

I remember when Tom and Patty came to Family Retreat with their 10-year-old son, Quinn, who is severely affected by autism.

I'm Joni Eareckson Tada. I remember when Tom and Patty came to Family Retreat with their 10-year-old son, Quinn, who is severely affected by autism. They arrived exhausted after Quinn had a meltdown in the car on the way. That night, though, they were ready to relax and enjoy the worship time. But relaxing, it wasn’t. You see, even though we’d assigned a volunteer to Quinn, somehow, this kid bounced out of his chair, grabbed the song leader’s water bottle and poured it out on his music stand. Tom and Patty were horrified and they thought, That’s it! They’re going to send us home. But the worship leader simply shook the water off his notes, and described it as a “drink offering to the Lord.” Wow! That’s the sort of acceptance and love a kid like Quinn and his parents receive at our Family Retreats.
