Bonnie's Forgiveness

The other day when Bonnie called to request a radio offer, she shared an amazing story. About a year ago, she was hit by a drunk driver, and sustained several injuries. All of it resulted in a great deal of pain. Yet she never felt malice toward the young man – Cameron – who hit her. In fact, she’s been praying that Cameron would come to know Jesus. Bonnie began praying that every time he took a drink, it would make him sick. When the court date arrived, Bonnie looked for an opportunity to speak to Cameron. She saw a young man sitting in the lobby, introduced herself, and asked if he were Cameron—the man broke down, apologizing profusely, “I am so sorry… I ruined your life.” Bonnie told him she was not angry and that God had given her the ability to forgive him. She asked Cameron if he knew God. He gave an awkward answer and told Bonnie he would never drink again. “It’s because every time I take a drink I get sick,” he explained. Bonnie had to giggle. She told Cameron about her prayer, that he would become nauseous whenever he drank. Shocked, he asked, “Do you have a direct line to God?” to which Bonnie replied, “As a matter of fact, I do. And you can have a direct line to God, too.”

Bonnie had planted a Gospel seed and made plans to meet Cameron again on the rescheduled court date. She told me, “My suffering will be worth it all if Cameron comes to Jesus.” Aren’t you amazed at that? Bonnie’s perspective is so biblical, so Christ-like. For this sister in Christ has chosen to bless, rather than curse; to pray for those who hurt her, just as Jesus says to do in Luke 6:28. Bonnie is putting Christ’s command into practice, and so can we. Friend, join me in praying alongside Bonnie that soon, Cameron will open his heart to the Lord Jesus!
