Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. You’re probably familiar with the beatitudes of Jesus from Matthew chapter 5: blessed are the poor in spirit; blessed are those who mourn; blessed are those who are persecuted; blessed are those who hunger and weep. Now… please notice that Jesus connects blessings here with poverty and trials and hardships. Usually we think of blessings as material prosperity, great health or perfect circumstances. But scripture says otherwise. It’s because tribulations and hardships join us in a deeper faith to Jesus. Through trials, we enjoy a sweeter, richer fellowship with Him. Money does not bring that, and neither does perfect health or a beautiful home. So today, if you are enduring a hard trial, hold fast to James chapter 1: “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial.” And what’s the blessing? A richer more satisfying relationship with Jesus.
