Yosemite Afternoon painting by Joni Eareckson Tada

Yosemite is a National Park with many pretty places. Joni loves seeing the beautiful places God has made and likes to paint them, too! When you look at a painting, stop and notice the lines. Do you see lines that go up and down? Do you see any lines that go from side to side? Can you find both types of lines on the big rock? What about in the trees? Lines that go from side to side can be restful and calming. Lines that go up and down can make something look big and strong. In this painting, the lines are important! But the big lines coming down the big rocks were hard for Joni to draw. She needed to be able to make each dark straight line all at once, but since she was painting this using her mouth, that was hard! How did she do it? She took three deep breaths each time she was about to put her paint brush on the paper. Then, as she painted, she kept reminding herself that God was her strength. And that’s a good plan for anytime you are doing something important!
