But what happens when you don’t know the person or his or her name? A lot of times, the easiest way to talk about a person is to say things about the way a person looks. How do you talk about the person in a kind way? “He has red hair.” “She is tall.” What about when a person has a disability? Here is a good tip for talking in a kind way about someone who has a disability: Remember to focus on the person! Put the person first! This means that instead of saying “the wheelchair kid” or “the blind boy” you say “the kid using a wheelchair” and “the boy who is blind.” Learn more ways of putting the person first through this activity.
