March is Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month

Young girl with CPMarch is a very special month here at Joni and Friends. Do you know why? Because it’s cerebral palsy awareness month! People who have CP (CP is the short way to say cerebral palsy) may talk or move differently than you and me, but that does not mean something is wrong with their ability to think. Cerebral means having to do with the brain, and palsy means a weakness or injury, which may make talking or walking a problem. Some people with cerebral palsy may use a wheelchair, while others may wear braces on their legs. It’s very important to remember that people with CP can think just like you and me, but because of the injury, all the signals that tell certain body parts how to move correctly get scrambled. Have your mom or dad help you download this activity to learn more about what it’s like to have CP.
