About This Retreat

Warriors returning from war are often faced with the emotional trauma of having witnessed heinous acts of violence, or the emotional and physical trauma of a personal injury. These injured warriors need a safe place to be able to come to terms with their emotions and, in some cases, their new bodies. It is imperative that effective disability outreach seek to embrace the needs of the entire family! It is also a great opportunity for networking and building relationships with others who know both the joys and relentless demands of life with a disability. The Wounded Warrior Getaway will provide support to soldiers affected by disability and their families in a Christ-centered, loving environment.
 
Building stronger families through spiritual and emotional outreach is what Joni and Friends is doing through the Warrior Getaway. Joni and Friends Warrior Getaway is a safe place for military families affected by disability to receive counsel, rest, encouragement, information, and resources to help with the daily challenges of life with a disability.
 
Volunteers/Short Term Missionaries (STMs) will arrive a day before the warriors and their families for practical training that will be lead by professionals. You will room with other STMs, fellowship together, and find that support is close at hand throughout the Getaway. Through the experiential training and time of serving, you’ll be equipped and encouraged to continue serving in your local church. You’ll experience spiritual growth like you never have before.
 
We’ll provide tips and tools for raising support, and it will be one of the best experiences you will ever encounter.
