CHRISTIAN INSTITUTE ON DISABILITY

About The Christian Institute on Disability

Mission Statement:
To Impact the Church, Christian and public institutions and societies with a biblical worldview and life-giving Truth on issues pertaining to life, dignity, justice and equality that affect people with disabilities.

Core Values
Life: All life comes from God the Creator and Sustainer of all things and is therefore sacred. Issues pertaining to life and death should be approached from an understanding that all individuals have a moral claim to life and God alone has the final decree to end a life.
(Gen.2:7; Col 2:15-17)

Dignity: Every individual is created in the Image of God and has inherent dignity, value and worth as a person regardless of physical capability and intellectual function. It is the responsibility of Christians and society to protect and advocate for the dignity of all people. (Gen.1:27)

Justice: The character of God as revealed in Scripture is a God of love, mercy and justice. Justice as a theme throughout scripture compels us as Christians to stand for righteousness and justice in order to correct the wrongs (injustice) that society causes or allows to happen to those affected by disability. (Ps. 37:5,6)

Equality: Every individual is equal in the eyes of God and should be treated as such. Equality is not the ignoring of disabilities, rather the recognition that all persons regardless of abilities exist for the glory of God and have been granted different gifts, abilities and life circumstances. (Rom. 10:12; 1Cor.12:12)

Evangelism: The Great Commission given by our Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 28:18-20 mandates that our first and foremost priority in all we do as Christians is to bring all people including those affected by disability to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ through declaration and demonstration of the Gospel and to encourage their discipleship, maturity and service in the local church.
