Why Give a Wheelchair?

Eight-year-old Andrea was born with cerebral palsy. Abandoned by her parents when she was just 5 months old, Andrea was raised by her grandparents. They worry about her future and work hard to provide for all her needs but struggle to make ends meet. Andrea needs a wheelchair but her grandparents will never be able to afford one. They leave her on the floor alone when they go to work in the cornfields for a couple hours. “There is no one to look after her and we worry very much,” Andrea’s grandfather told us.

But everything changed at a recent Wheels for the World distribution in Guatemala. Andrea received a brand-new Joni and Friends pediatric wheelchair that fit her perfectly. It is a gift that will bring her into the light and sunshine once again and display the love God has for her. She will now be able to be part of her community. A Bible and a Joni book were given to this family in their language.

“Thank you! We didn’t have the money to buy this wheelchair for our granddaughter. It’s because of your faithfulness that this was possible,” Andrea’s grandmother said. Lying on the floor no longer, Andrea now sits with joy and dignity. Smiling from ear to ear, her life is now full of hope and promise. Thank you!
