Wheelchair Therapist speaking with PaolaWhat happens when you send a wheelchair? It opens the door to education and empowerment – but in God’s hands, it becomes a vehicle to share the Gospel! To see how it happens, meet Paola and her mother in Peru…

1. Local Outreach
Paola and her mother arrive at a Wheels for the World outreach taking place in their neighborhood in Peru. “I want to be a teacher!” Paola tells us, with a gleam in her eye. “I’m very smart too,” she adds. And no one would argue – Paola practically radiates with energy and optimism!

2. Heart to Heart Connection
Paola’s mother shares little of her daughter’s enthusiasm, however. Her face is pinched; tears silently flow. “I want to ask God’s purpose for my child,” she whispers. “How can God create such a mind as Paola’s, with legs that don’t work?” Instantly, the door is opened for God to work a miracle in the hearts of mother and daughter alike….

3. A Wheelchair, Provided by You
Physical therapists and occupational therapists have volunteered to serve at the outreach. They carefully assess Paola’s needs, then work with the team’s wheelchair mechanics to provide a wheelchair that fits her just right, and meets her specific needs.

4. Your Gift Opens the Door to God’s Word
As a Bible is given to Paola’s mother, it is opened to Jeremiah 29:11: “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘…plans to give you hope and a future.’” A team member explains to her, “God created Paola for a purpose. Her bright mind and determined spirit are gifts from God. Encourage her, and pray for her – God will help you. This is your joy and privilege as her mother.”

5. The Good News - Shared and Received
That day, Paola received mobility that will launch her into school and a better future. Her mother received God’s word, with answers to her deepest questions about her daughter’s value, and His love for each of them. Paola has all she needs, and now her mother does, too – for both received Christ that day.
