Water Safety

Water SafetyDid you know that national statistics indicate that most spinal injuries occur on the last Saturday of July? We are most active in water-based sports during the summer, and that’s why whenever children tour our Joni and Friends International Disability Center, I remind them never to dive in shallow water (and always swim with a buddy). With swimming, boating, hiking, fishing, fireworks – you name it – there are lots of summer activities that can be dangerous if we don’t use caution (don’t end up like me with a broken neck :-).

So, whatever your summer plans, practice the buddy system and know and obey your safety rules. Let’s keep broken necks to a minimum!
