Thursday, July 1st Update:

With her hospital stay behind her, Joni is taking the next several weeks to rest and recuperate from surgery. Today Joni and Ken met with a home health nurse to go over the details of tending to her surgical site. Her sister Kathy has flown in from Maryland to help with home nursing needs. “It’s great having my sister here,” Joni said. “My mother survived breast cancer and Kathy was her primary care giver after Mom’s mastectomy. I’m in good hands with her here.” An appointment with her medical oncologist has been scheduled for next week during which Joni and Ken will discuss the details of her chemotherapy routine.

“As I look back on my time in the hospital, it was one wonderful divine appointment after another – even praying with my surgeon,” said Joni. “Ken was constantly giving out ‘Joni’ books and Gospel tracts and telling every nurse and aide about our faith in Christ, as well as the work of Joni and Friends. One of the highlights of the hospital stay was a visit from three of the leaders at the ministry – nothing could have invigorated my heart more than to hear such marvelous reports on the many Family Retreats underway across the country, as well as news coming in from places where our JAF teams are serving, like in Mali, West Africa! And although I can’t be ‘on the road’ serving beside them in my wheelchair, I sure can pray from home!”

Joni also expressed profound thanks for the many cards and emails and posts on Joni’s Corner, which she reads regularly. “God is moving mightily through the prayers of His people – I’ve loved reading the scriptures and quotes from hymns. And I can hardly describe the incredible sensation of His grace supporting Ken and me every step of the way. Our nightly readings of God's Word have been so sweet. I resonate with Psalm 62:1-2, ‘My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.’” Joni and Ken have requested prayer for God's hand of healing… keeping infection at bay… maintaining good range of motion in her arm… and continuing a positive outlook on the challenges ahead.

Thank you for visiting Joni’s Corner and make a point to visit this page regularly for updates and prayer requests.

Joni, you and Ken have been and will continue to be in my prayers. I know difficult times are ahead; God's divine help never fails. You know that. Meeting you at the family retreat in Ohio was such a pleasure! Don has spent two weeks in ICU. Again, he has suprised us all by pulling through. God isn't ready for him yet. It's been a bit stressful; that's why I didn't write sooner. Plus I got a pesky GI virus in the midst of it all. God's way of telling me I can't camp out in Don's room. He's doing better; still heavily sedated and far from well. God continue to bless and use the Tadas Marsha Bare

Joni, As you travel on this journey of breast cancer, take heart there are many "sisters" beside you! I was diagnosed with breast cancer in January/2007, at that time I felt like my entire world had fallen apart. But through my surgeries, chemotheraphy, testing, and doctor visits I came to realize what a wonderful gift from God I was given! To have an intimate relationship with Him, not the world! To be honest there were hard days, however knowing God was with me every step, gave me great courage and strength to face the challenges of a cancer diagnois. You and your husband will be in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs and Blessing, Vickie

Dear Joni, Our family has been praying for you these past couple of weeks. We are so grateful to the Lord for your successful surgery and will be praying as you undergo chemotherapy. You and the ministry are such an encouragement to us and to the body of Christ. All three of our daughters, 28,25 and 18 have a burden to serve people with special challenges, whether it be physical or emotional. They are working on masters in special education while teaching elementary school, one working on therapeutic recreation and one starting her college and praying for direction. They have all expressed desires to volunteer with Joni and Friends camps in Pennslyvania and for Wheels for the World. Many times the family has watched the Suffering and the Sovereignity of God DVD with John Piper, the Lord has used you to give hope to the hurting. What a great and merciful, loving God we serve. Our love to you and Ken and to Joni and Friends Ministry. We will continue to pray for the Lord's continued healing, strength and grace for the days ahead. All our love and blessings in the name of our wonderful Lord and Savior. Mark and Gail Spencer Elizabeth, Sharon and Laura

Hello Joni, my Pastor had mentioned you had breast cancer yesterday at EXL and I was heartbrokened to hear the news. I have since read all your updates and am encouraged to hear God is with you. You have really helped me with your Ministry. A wheelchair can be isolating and it is nice to hear that God still loves us even in a wheelchair. Somedays can get very discouraging dealing with my 7 year old and 17 year old at home. Thank you for continuing to shine the light of God even when the serious health issues hit. The Bible showed God's light thru Moses Abraham Joshua Jereimiah Isaiah ...and you shine God's light for the disabled.

Dear Joni, just found out about your surgery. My heart goes out to you with all my prayers. I pray God will give you complete healing. I have to say many years ago I got saved and I read one of your books. That was the first book I had ever read. I have listen to you on radio for many years. I also have donated a wheelchair to Wheels around the World. I have what they call Charcot-Marie-Tooth and I am in a wheelchair. It is a muscle and nerve problem and is listed under MD. Thank you Joni, for all the encouraging word you have give me via the air ways. God Bless both you and your Husband as you go through this trying time. Love in Christ Lilli

Joni, When I was a teenager I read your book. Two times. I was amazed at your acceptance of your diving accident. Being a teenager most things come and go with out a memory of most things. Except when it was totally about ourselve. You have appeared in and out of my life since first reading your book. I wish I could tell some of the times when I saw you on tv or the radio but you were always there. Then we welcomed the internet - no more is needed to be said about how visible you were to me. I am not visible to you but I too suffer from paralysis. Paralysis of the heart. My husband and I lost our 16 year old son, Joshua, in November, 2003. I believe as you that God has total control of our life and his hand was in Joshua's accident. I'm telling you this because I wasted this hurt that God gave us. I have become a shell of Christian, mother and wife. Your life is an encouragment to me. You haven't wasted any hurt in this lifetime. I have a tough time praying to God but I talk to Jesus. You will be included in my talks with God. Blessings, Many many blessings to you, Cindy
