Thomas family at Family RetreatMeet the Thomas family—Willie, Tarra, their daughter Emma and grandma Karen—who attended Family Retreat last summer.

YOU’RE STRENGTHENING FAMILIES AT FAMILY RETREAT Caring for a child with intellectual and developmental disabilities leaves little room for spontaneity or times to rest and recharge. “It’s comforting to be at a place where you’re with other families who understand the same kind of life you have,” Tarra told us. “It’s great to have that support from other families and reminds us that we’re never alone.”

YOU GIVE LOVE TO FAMILIES THROUGH FAMILY RETREAT “It’s hard to leave this place,” Willie told us. “You feel loved like family and it’s a safe place here. Our dream is for Emma to grow up with these kids at Retreat and come back every year.”

YOU GIVE FAMILIES TIME TO BOND AT FAMILY RETREAT Disability affects every relationship in the family, including marriage. Emma’s father, Willie shared, “Retreat has given our family hope. From the teachings, to the worship, it’s given my wife and me time to reconnect and we know Emma is having a great time and taken care of by her volunteer Short Term Missionary (STM).”

YOU GIVE FAMILIES NEW EXPERIENCES AT FAMILY RETREAT At Retreat, children with disabilities get to discover a whole new world of opportunities, where new experiences and new friendships open the door to new confidence and courage. Tarra shared, “Emma was able to try new things and learn something new each day. People celebrate and encourage one another here!”
