Amy Greeb at International Family RetreatWhen STMs sign up to volunteer at a Joni and Friends Family Retreat, they often expect to encourage a family affected by disability. But as they serve, STMs are often just as blessed as the people they hope to encourage. Amy Greeb shares her experience at International Family Retreat in Guatemala...

"I am so thankful for the experience I received serving in Guatemala at Family Retreat. I was expecting to go and “help God out” by encouraging families affected by disability, but once I was there, I realized I can’t do anything without Him. When I desperately needed God to help me with communication, He provided. I was able to communicate some with the Guatemalan family I was serving through slow Spanish and acting everything out… they blessed me with their love and understanding. I actually think they blessed me more than I blessed them! Serving as an STM helped me realize that I want to pursue a career as a medical missionary in a Spanish speaking country. I thank God for this experience where I was able to develop relationships with some of the most God-fearing people in the world, encourage them, and also discover my passion for spreading the truth of God’s love!"
