Singing Theology

The other day, a friend asked why I memorize so many hymns, and I replied, “Because I need to!” My comment drew a strange look until I explained why. You see, timeless hymns of the Christian faith contain such rich doctrine – powerful principles from God’s Word that sustain me when pain, weariness or my emotions try to drag down my faith and confidence in Christ. That’s when I comfort myself with great hymns like “Rock of Ages” or “Holy, Holy, Holy” or “Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise” and more. The next time you feel the heat of your battle against the world, the flesh, and the devil, flip open your hymnal – you can never be disappointed ‘singing’ sound theology (and special thanks to Paul Tripp for his amazing quote)!
