Roe vs. Wade... Impacting Disability

Forty years ago when the US Supreme Court legalized abortion, people assumed it was only a private matter for women alone. But not so. The Roe vs. Wade decision has had a devastating impact on Americans with disabilities. To explain this, I recorded a video for the Americans United for Life Legal Conference recently held at the National Press Club in Washington DC. Take a moment and watch this video which details how dismantling the rights of an unborn child has impacted newborns with disabilities, people in comas, the uninsured, and the elderly – then please, share it with your Facebook friends!

Dear Joni, Thank you so much for standing up for the weaker ones among us. It breaks my heart to see the calloused attitude of so many people, and particularly doctors towards anything weak and "useless." This attitude dates back to Charles Darwin, and the following eugenicists, like Susan B. Anthony, and atheist, who believed that imperfect and poor people should be sterilized. Hitler was inspired by her, as is the modern abortion movement. I think as a society, we have lost sight of Job's very wise words, when he said that the words of one grieving belong to the wind. While we may be depressed from time to time due to illness or other trouble, and be angry and pray to die - God knows those words belong to the wind, and that around the corner things may look up. But somehow as a society, we have lost track of the reality that, "While weeping may endure for a night, joy comes in the morning."

Dear Joni, Thank You for this vedio. It sure is right to the point. I didn't know these other pionts that would effect anyone with a disability.. Joni, well said!! I agree with you views on this. You are such a strong woman of God, no one better than to lead this cause. Also I was unaware of your battle with breast cancer, will keep you in my prayers.

Wow! As a disabled middle aged adult woman with slight spastic cerebral palsy, this puts my life, and my wheelchair bound elderly mother's life in a unique perspective. This puts this hotly debated topic in perspective for me. As was stated in the video, the Roe vs. Wade decision does indeed have an ever expanding influence on how we view the poor and weakest, definitely on a downward slippery slope...
