joni and ralph carlmichaelRalph Carmichael is a famous composer and arranger of both secular and contemporary Christian music. Recently, he helped me lead a community hymn sing and afterward, during lunch, I learned that he just turned 85! For many years Ralph arranged music for top performers, including Nat King Cole, but it’s in the field of Christian music that he is most well known. They call him the "Father of Contemporary Christian Music," and years ago, he arranged the music on “Joni’s Waltz,” and also on a song I wrote called “When Pretty Things Get Broken.” At 85 Ralph is as energetic as ever and still singing praises to God – and that’s why he inspires me.

Hey Joni and Ken! I remember singing Ralph Carmichael songs as a kid singing in youth choirs, etc. I think he wrote a musical called 'Tell It Like It Is'. "Cotton candy clouds so fluffy and white. Who put you there in a sky of deep blue. Master Designer whoever you are..." Thanks for sharing the Joni's Corner blog about Ralph! Brings back wonderful memories of youth! You and Ken are in my prayer as you travel to and fro. I am praying for safety, fresh messages, and strength to carry the baggage.

Joni, I am so happy that you introduced Ralph Carmichel to me today. I didn't know that he is behind or maybe ahead of the contempory christian movement. He sounds like a person that I would like to know. Thanks . Anne Tennis
