Our Prayer Wall

Years ago, when Ken and I visited Israel and the Western Wall in Jerusalem, we wrote down our prayers and folded them into the cracks of the stones, just as pilgrims have been doing for centuries. What did I write? The mission statement for Joni and Friends — I asked God to help us keep giving the Gospel and equipping Christ honoring churches worldwide to evangelize and disciple people affected by disability. It was a holy moment, standing there by the massive wall that was once part of the Second Temple built by King Herod and destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD.

I thought of that visit to the wall recently when my artist-friend, Carol Claassen, came by our headquarters to present us with her beautifully crafted “Prayer Wall” for Joni and Friends. And guess what?! On one of the stones, Carol printed the same Joni and Friends mission statement. She even wrote a prayer for our ministry and then tucked it in between one of the cracks. Carol hand-makes her ‘reproduction of those ancient stones’ as framed wall décor into which people can tuck away their own prayers, wishes, memories and keepsakes. Take a look at her wall art by visiting Carol’s website. Then, join me in praying that God will keep using Joni and Friends to communicate the Gospel and equip churches around the world to reach more people with disabilities for Christ!
