C.H. Spurgeon once wrote, "The church is not as an association for mutual admiration and comfort; the church is an army gathered to be trained for war, marching to the fray to achieve victories for Christ, to storm the strongholds of the foe, and to add province after province to the Redeemer's kingdom." Now that's an invigorating call to arms for us believers! And so today, as I go to the hospital for an out-patient procedure to prepare for chemotherapy next week, would you join me please in going before God's Throne with these requests...

Ask God to...

  • make Ken and me good ambassadors for Christ as we relate to doctors, technicians and nurses
  • make our efforts to share the Gospel successful
  • give me a special audience before the Throne as I pray on the behalf of others who are weak, disabled, or struggling with disease
  • glorify the Father through this battle against cancer
  • give me energy to tackle Joni and Friends' responsibilities (you know how much I enjoy the ministry)!
  • anoint our outreach at Joni and Friends -- two more Family Retreats are underway this week; ask God to open the hearts of disabled children, adults and their family members to the Good News of Jesus Christ!
  • two Wheels for the World teams are ministering this week -- one in Romania, the other in Cameroon.  With each wheelchair delivered and Bible distributed, ask the Lord Jesus to bring people to a saving knowledge of Himself!
  • Finally, today marks the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act into law -- please pray that God will open many more doors of access in our society to those with disabilities.  I’ve attached an article I wrote about the ADA – it’s scheduled to appear on main opinion page today, the 26th. View article.

It's wonderful to lean on you, my brothers and sisters in Christ -- thank you for joining me in prayer!

I've been keeping up with you this month and praying for you through this journey. As of July 8, I am now a two year breast cancer survivor. I was blessed to never miss a concert other than the original surgery week, praise God! I, too, had lymph nodes involved but all my scans were clear, so I endured 3 months of chemo for prevention of recurrence. Please know that I will continue to pray for you and your family! God is faithful!

Dear Joni, I've listen to you on radio and how you have overcome adversity. Cancer is another adversity that I pray the Lord will get you through as you are so precious to Him and all those who have heard about you and know you. Praying that your healing is already taking place, in Jesus name. Amen

Personal Note to Joni: My Pastor, Steve Ruetschle of Union Church of Manila here in the Philippines, was in an accident on 6/17/2010 in the US and has become a paraplegic. Amazingly, his Easter sermon in April concluded with Joni's life story and quotes from her book. His "Recovery" web site,, has been viewed over 30,000 times. He is now at room 457 in Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, WA. Joni, please take a look at his site and in particular his video sermons link. I believe that Steve has a tremendous ministry ahead of him and that the two of you should meet soon. Blessings in Him, Tim Ackerman My USA Vonage phone number is 410-987-4663

Dear Joni! I have been a pastor for 30 years and have often encouraged people to listen to your program. I thank God for you and your ministry! The joy that is in your voice as you minister has always brought encouragement to me and so many others! My wife and daughter had the privilege of seeing at Bon Clarken (N.C.)several years back, you had a great impact on my daughter and I thank God for the fulness of His Spirit that overflows in your life. Be assured our family and our church are praying for you and Ken during this time! May the Lord continue to bless and strengthen you!

hi! I read your article about the 20th anniversary of the ADA. I am glad I read to the VERY end! The thing that cost my eye the most was ..........the longest living quadraplegic on record! How cool is that! I just came back from a Spina Bifida pinic and was "complaining" that i Was the oldest one there than decided : Wow God! That's great!! It 's all in how you look at it!! Praying for you as you being your chemotherapy! "I will rejoice in the God of my salvation" rhonda brown des moines ia

Joni, I read your book in the 70's while in high school. I left it at home when I moved away and my mother read it, too. I remember her talking about how profoundly it affected her. She passed in 2005 of Lung cancer. I rest in the comfort that your story gave her a closer relationship with God. Thank you for honoring the work God gave you. You have touched my life. My sister was recently diagnosed with Peritenial cancer and has rededicated her life to Christ because of it. It is so true that we are drawn back to Christ when we are in fear. I sent her a book on prayer so she could talk to God with confidence. I am going to send her the book my mother and i read. Thank you for your impact in my and my family's life. I will continue to lift you up in your work for Christ. Love in Christ, Kerry
