Miss Shining StarRecently the Joni and Friends team in Knoxville co-sponsored a ‘Miss Shining Star’ contest to honor children, teens, and young adults with disabilities who reflect confidence and God’s graciousness. Scores of young people participated and the judges included Miss Chattanooga 2014 and Ms. Wheelchair Tennessee. Seven-year-old Ani (with chromosome deletion) won Tiny Miss Shining Star; nine-year-old Charla (spina bifida) won Little Miss Shining Star; and Emma (13 years-old with autism) secured the Teen Miss Shining Star crown, and finally at the end of the evening, Allie (23 years-old with Asperger’s) was crowned Miss Shining Star. People are calling our Knoxville office wanting to volunteer or participate next year. Congratulations to Joni and Friends Knoxville for encouraging these girls and young women!
