Dr. Chuck MusfeldtOur close friend and long-time board member of Joni and Friends, Dr. Chuck Musfeldt, recently lost his life in a tragic automobile accident in San Antonio. Chuck was returning home from church after a deacon’s meeting when his car was struck by a city bus that failed to stop at a red light. Chuck and his wife Linda became involved with our ministry in the early 1990’s when they served on the local board of Joni and Friends Chicago – the Musfeldts were enthusiastic supporters, volunteering at Family Retreats and joining Wheels for the World trips. Chuck was invited in 1999 to serve on the Joni and Friends international board of directors where his firsthand experience with our programs, as well as business-expertise, quickly established him as a leader. Not only was Chuck a medical doctor, but his MBA proved invaluable as he worked with our leadership team to secure the fiscal structure of our ministry.

Most recently, Chuck became a tireless advocate of our Wounded Warrior Getaways and has helped lead the program in San Antonio. Chuck also served as international director for Bible Study Fellowship; he and Linda spent the last several years traveling the globe to encourage BSF leadership in small and great nations. He was actively involved in BSF and worked hard to give shape to the men’s program, here and abroad.

“Chuck was a great man of God who loved His Word, as well as the discipline of prayer. All of us at Joni and Friends are deeply saddened and will miss him dearly. We pray for God's comfort to console Linda and her daughters,” said Joni Tada. Joni and Ken plan to attend the memorial service in San Antonio on March 19th; they will be joined by Doug Mazza, President of Joni and Friends, Billy Burnett, Executive Vice President, Lorraine Mazza, Managing Director of Development, and Greg Wood, chairman of the board, and his wife Candy.

I just heard Dr. Chuck speak at the BSF Leaders Retreat in Charlotte last month. He was an amazing man - what a wonderful testimony and zeal for the Lord. I am praying that God will be so very close to his family at this time, and that He will wipe away their tears.

Praising The Lord for the witness that Dr. Chuck had been to all as he focused on Jesus Christ and the calling upon his life. I am Praising The Lord for the day when he and his family will be reunited not just for a short time but for all of eternity. What a time of rejoicing it will be for those who know Jesus Christ. That's sad - I always am when fellows in Christ leave surprisingly. But we know where he is now - with our great Lord. Peace to his family and friends, remember and be inspired by his way of life xx

The Miami Men's BSF class will surely miss him. Chuck was an inspiration to us all and a great example of a true servant of God. May God Bless you and comfort you. My heart cries out with you. He will be remembered.

It is with great sadness that I am writing this...Dr. Chuck and Pastor Jacob (from Africa) led me back to Christ in 2006 when I was taking care of Pastor Jacob's wife in the hospital. Somehow he knew I had left Christ and he and pastor Jacob prayed for me the day of his wife's death. I just received an email not too long ago regarding Dr. Chucks recent missionary trip. He changed my life. I am now working for a nonprofit Christian based clinic and following Christ closely because of the holy spirit working through him and Jacob. I will miss him... :(

My Teaching Leader told us of Chuck's tragic death at our leader's meeting. Having heard him speak at our leaders retreat in Charlotte was profound. His passion for God's Word and family will impact my heart forever. May his family have the assurance of knowing that he made such a lasting impact on people because of his obedience to answer the call from the Lord and to boldly speak truth in love. Prayers for his family for the tragic loss of such a Godly man.
