kenon's necklaceOn my last post, you met Kenon who is battling stage 4 cancer -- during our visit, she took off her necklace and placed it around my neck. It's a little empty birdcage with a red bird charm attached to it. On the flip side is John 8:32, "You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

I was deeply touched by this personal gift and, in turn, shared the following poem with her. It was written by a French noblewoman, Madame Guyon, who was imprisoned in a dungeon for ten years because of her faith. Read it, be inspired, then pass it on...

A little bird I am, shut from the fields of air;
And in my cage I sit and sing to Him who placed me there;
Well pleased a prisoner to be because, my God, it pleases Thee.

Naught have I else to do; I sing the whole day long;
And He whom most I love to please, doth listen to my song:
He caught and bound my wandering wing,
But still He bends to hear me sing.

Oh! It is good to soar these bolts and bars above,
To Him whose purpose I adore, whose providence I love;
And in Thy mighty will to find the joy, the freedom, of the mind.

the providence of God is such a comfort. Remember Stonewall Jackson..."I'm as safe in battle as I am in bed"...oh for such a faith.

Dear Joni, I also have read Madame Guyon. I didn't know she had written such a beautiful poem! It is beautifully transla- ted into English! Madame Guyon stressed experiencing the Scriptures and enjoy reading the Scriptures.
