Courage has never been to school or used his hands to hold a pen or a crayon. Recently, his father Peter brought him to receive a wheelchair, but Wheels for the World offers so much more… Our volunteer Wheels for the World teams include highly skilled professionals that offer expertise in diagnosis, physical therapy, and training. They not only custom-fit every wheelchair, they provide valuable, much-needed medical assessment and education for parents. In turn, mothers and fathers are more able to strengthen and empower their children for years to come. As physical therapist Jan Hall expertly began the assessment process with little Courage, she realized that he was capable of so much more than his family knew. A Regency Chair was brought out with a nice, solid lap tray that functions like a desk. As Peter looked on, Jan put a coloring paper in front of Courage and a crayon in his fingers. Patiently she guided his awkward little hands until he began to color on his own. In just a short time, Courage was using higher level skills, reaching from the left to right, then reaching across his body for objects. How was he able to do this so quickly? The Regency Pediatric wheelchair was designed to provide the support a child like Courage needs to move his arms freely. You provided so much more than a wheelchair that day in Ghana. A father learned to that his disabled son has greater capabilities than he had ever imagined. A Regency Chair and a loving Joni and Friends professional opened a new door of discovery through education, training, and the patient love of Jesus.
