Joni and Ken at Family Retreat

“He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” – Isaiah 40:29-31

When I think of Joni, I think of this verse from Isaiah. Although she does not run or walk – or even use her hands – she soars like an eagle. Through 35 years of marriage, through cancer and chronic pain, I’ve seen her at her lowest, her weakest. But in those moments, I’ve also seen her trust in the Lord and find new strength every time.

I wish you could see how utterly tireless she is when it comes to the work of Joni and Friends. She just doesn’t quit. I know it’s because she understands what it feels like for other disabled people to be at their lowest – their weakest. She is driven to tell them about Jesus. And I’m so proud to be Joni’s partner in this ministry to help other disabled people like her find new strength in Christ.

I thank you for being her partner, too. And so, this month as she reaches the milestone of living 50 years in her wheelchair, please continue to be her partner with your prayers and gifts. Help her fulfill her vision to reach as many people with disabilities as possible with the Good News of Jesus. Thank you for praying for them… and thank you for praying for my incredible wife!
