Great Memories

Although summer is behind us, I am still relishing in so many memories from Family Retreats, and how the Word of God worked in the hearts of so many disabled kids and adults. Each reflection blesses my heart – like the mother I met who never got out of the house due to her autistic son’s frequent meltdowns. Family Retreat was the first place outside their home where this family felt comfortable, loved, and accepted. Then there’s the memory of square dancing with Jeremy who is blind (I know, it’s odd picturing a blind person square dancing with a quad, but it was a blast).

But my favorite memory was talking with James who has cerebral palsy and is non-verbal. When I asked James what he liked most about Family Retreat, he answered, “Gaaaad.” It took a little help from his dad, but I finally realized James was saying “God!” James has it right. Sure, Family Retreat has swimming, horseback riding, hay rides, pampering day for moms, kid’s movie and pizza night, and many other fun activities, but the best part is connecting with God. It’s why Ken and I love the Retreats! You can see it all in this special little video – and here’s hoping it’ll encourage you to join us next year. Just keep your eye out for the 2018 Family Retreat schedule, and get signed up.
