There’s no doubt about it. Families that live with disability need hope, peace, and freedom in Jesus Christ! That’s exactly what they find at Family Retreats! Whether it’s exciting camp activities, dynamic worship, or life-changing Bible teaching, families are rejuvenated with freedom in Christ! Meet the Ake family – David, Jamie, Lizzie (who has spina bifida), and Alexa – who attended Family Retreat this summer.

Alexa and Lizzie Fishing at Family RetreatFreedom from worry. “The first day, it was extremely difficult to let Lizzie go,” Jamie told us. “She’s never been away from us, on her own. I was able to relax when I saw how our Short Term Missionary (STM), Maddie, jumped right in and cared for Lizzie. They had an instant connection.” Freedom in knowing your child is genuinely loved. “Lizzie’s days are filled with physical therapy, medical visits, doctor’s appointments, and more,” Jamie said. “Seeing Lizzie enjoy life and just be a kid was deeply moving.” Freedom to strengthen family bonds. “Caring for Lizzie, my days are all planned out—minute by minute. There’s no room for spontaneity in my schedule or time to rest,” Jamie said. David added, “At Family Retreat, our family was finally able to rest, relax and recharge. Words can’t express how grateful we are that we were given the chance to experience Family Retreat.” Freedom to make joyful memories. “Disability affects every relationship in the family. At home, sometimes I wonder how Lizzie’s older sister, Alexa, deals with all of Lizzie’s disability needs,” Jamie said. “Here, I see them having fun together and simply enjoy being kids. To watch them look out for each other makes me so happy.”

Hello, Praise God, and this is the day that the LORD has made and we shall rejoice and be glad in it. I thank God for you, Joni and friends. You have inspired me so much, knowing that you are holding fast to what our God can, and will do in all circumstances. Keep pressing on in the work that has been assigned to you for your rewards are great in the LORD. I do listen to your program by radio every morning at 5:55am. Thanks for all you do with the ministry with the Special needs and disability, Wheel chairs for all ministry.
