A few years back, I got to experience kayaking for the first time at one of our Joni and Friends Family Retreats. The team of accessible recreation experts and volunteers got me into a two-seater kayak, and Ken paddled me out onto the pristine waters of Otter Lake — it was so much FUN! And that’s the kind of fun and thrill that adults and kids with disabilities get to experience at Family Retreat. Just take a look at this video of Jacob, a young man and wheelchair user who got to go down the big water slide at our Camp Allen retreat.  Jacob had a blast enjoying things that he would normally not be able to do elsewhere. And it gives me so much joy to see people with disabilities like me explore all kinds of new things while at Family Retreat—but Family Retreats are about so much more! So visit our Family Retreat page to learn about all the fun, fellowship, and respite for families with disabilities … and then sign up to volunteer!
