This is something to celebrate! I've completed the first week of chemotherapy and today, August 13th, is the first time I have felt myself rising up out of that initial 'slump' of no-energy and feeling drained and tired. I even came into work today and wrote a fistful of radio programs -- proof of it is this snazzy photo of my secretary, Francie, and me and my sister, Kathy (who heads home to Maryland on Sunday after this, her second stint out here helping me). I praise God and if I could lift my arms high in the air, I'd be waving them ecstatically for "the Lord is my helper, I am not afraid" (Hebrews 13:6) and "He himself has said, 'I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you'" (Hebrews 13:5).

Your posts on the blog, your emails and notes continue to inspire and refresh me. My second round of chemotherapy is still a couple weeks away, but now is the season for rejoicing -- join me this weekend in thanking the Lord for His goodness and graciousness!

Sorry to hear you have breast cancer but I will be praying for you. I had a mastectomy about 1 year ago. Hang in there, if you lose your hair it will grow back! I found a book that has been good. "Dear God, They Say It's Cancer" by Janet Thompson. Thank you for your devotional book "Pearls of Great Price" as it was very uplifting this last year. Praying for you.

Dear Joni and Ken, Thank you for your updates as this helps me know how to pray for you both. As Carol Kent wrote in her book A New Normal, you and Ken are walking in A New Normal these days as you go through chemotherapy. What was so new and frightening becomes routine as you battle those cancer cells. My prayer is that chemo kills every cancer cell in your body, Joni, with the least amount of side effects. I love praying for you both and look forward to hearing how you both are being upheld by the grace and comfort of Jesus, our Savior and Lord. My prayer partner shared with me today how your singing hymns blesses her so much. You both are soldiers for Christ. Love, Nancy Irion Everett, WA

What a remarkable person that you are. Going through all that you have been through and still going through. God has hands richly upon you as we all know. I will continue to pray for you and your cancer treatments. Please remember me and my family as well.
