Fly-fishing: The Art of Deception

Yesterday Ken returned from a week of fly-fishing on Montana’s Madison River – he came home, telling me all about which fly he used to catch which fish. It reminded me of a photo my friend Kara sent me this past spring – it was a banner for an exhibit called “The Art of Deception” (the exhibit featured all kinds of lures for fly-fishing, but it was the title that caught Kara’s eye :-). How do we catch a fish? By creating a lure that most closely resembles a real bug/grasshopper/insect – the more life-like the copy, the better the chance of fooling a smart fish! So how does Satan entrap us? The same way: he entices us with endless copies of God’s true gifts, and he lures us with temptations that appear to offer genuine pleasure. But it’s a lie! Remember, your adversary is an expert at deception, looking to snag you into sin if he can. Thanks for the spiritual fly-fishing lesson, Kara :-).
