Slice of Heaven

Marian wasn’t sure what to expect the first time she volunteered as a Short-Term Missionary (STM) at a Family Retreat five years ago. After hearing about Retreat from a friend, she took a step of faith and was willing to be the hands and feet of Jesus to a family affected by disability. She was nervous but excited to see how God would use her and what He had in store.

“I remember my first year I was watching everyone and soaking in what Joni and Friends’ Family Retreats were all about. It’s truly like a slice of heaven on earth,” she shared with us. Marian watched as families affected by disability were shown genuine love and encouragement, and were filled with the hope of Jesus Christ. She added “You see such godly character in people here and much love.”

Every year since then, Marian kept returning to serve, and God began to teach and reveal more of Himself to her. “My perspective changed. God showed me that every life has value and purpose. Everyone has something to offer and is made in His image,” she said.

Do you have a desire to go serve and let God use you? Here’s what Marian would say to you, “I’ve been there and understand the fear of the unknown. But I also know how important it is to obey God’s calling. Remember… He will equip you for His glory.”
