Drawing on Memories

This past Sunday, a friend sent me a scan of one of my old pen-and-ink drawings – I rendered back in the early 70s and it was one of the first sketches I did holding pens in my mouth. Just looking at it brought back a flood of memories. I drew it at a time when I was tired of being so depressed, yet still struggling spiritually. I knew, though, that the best way to leave depression behind was to take small but forward-looking, Christ-centered steps toward a more hopeful future. And just doing this drawing of the Good Shepherd helped – it helped keep my focus on Jesus. Oswald Chambers wrote, “Leave the broken, irreversible past in God's hands, and step out into the invincible future with Him.” Great advice on which to move forward today.

I have what i believe is one of Joni's original pen and ink sketches. It is a landscape of trees and the lake. I came across it in a KARM store (Knox Area Rescue Ministires) about 4 years ago right around the time my oldest brother had become paralyzed. It has a typed paper of Joni's story taped to the back. I have found great inspiration in it. God's timing is perfect. PTL!

The other day, out of the blue, a memory of something someone did to me came back and I hurt all over again. I thought I was past it, that I had forgiven her but the pain is still there. We have to leave it in God's hands and I thank you for reminding me of that. We have to believe that God has it and let go of it.

Joni, Your painting here is so beautiful! Many people who have full use of their hands could not do a painting this well - like me! You are truly very talented. At the time you did this painting, I would have just been born. I look toward your advice, especially as I am trying to find a job now and very frustrated with being unemployed. You are a beautiful person, Joni, and so is Ken. God Bless You! Nicole

Thank you for sharing this picture and the statement along side it. To focus on the Good Shepherd and not the broken, irreversible past. Most of us don't do nearly a percentage for the Lord that you do. Yet, your reach goes deep into the heart of the viewer or listener. May God allow this to continue until His coming. Thank you again for sharing. Praise the Lord!

Joni is such an inspiration to many people who are handicaped the sence that they can't do things the way average people do. But joni doesn't the small fact that she can't physically but she has never let that keep her from living a full life with the wonderful sunny way of inspiring every one she has contact with, in all the ways that her Heavenly has provided her with. We love you Joni
