A Dignified Death?

pillsLike many, my heart broke when I recently watched Brittany Maynard's video in which she outlined her plans to die through physician-assisted suicide. No one – absolutely no one – welcomes the pain that dealing with a terminal disease invariably brings, and it's clear that this young woman is firm in her convictions. But if I could park my wheelchair beside her, I would tell her how the love of Jesus has sustained me through my chronic pain, quadriplegia and cancer. I don't want her to wake up on the other side of her tombstone only to face a dark, grim existence without life and joy; that is, without God. There's only one Person who has transformed the landscape of life-after-death, and that is Jesus, the One who conquered the grave and opened the path to life eternal. Three grams of Phenobarbital in the veins will only provide a temporary reprieve. It is not the answer for the most important passage of her life.

The hours are ticking away; please, Brittany, open your heart to the only One who can do something about your pain and your death. Life is the most irreplaceable and fundamental condition of the human experience, and I implore you to take a long, hard look at the consequences of your decision which is so fatal, and worst of all, so final.

Hi Joni, I have not stopped praying for a miracle since i read her stories weeks ago. I have sent her name to my prayer warriors. I have the article on my desk and I pray everytime I look at it. I pray every morning. This is a now time MIRACLE that we so need from the one and only GOD! I'm glad to know that many are touching and agreeing and praying the same pray. I will follow it to the end and praying that the closer November 1st comes the stronger in the Lord she will get. Thanks In pray Nona

it's not about a dignified death - it's everything about choosing life after this body passes through from here to there. There is: eternal pain or eternal joy! As long as there's life there's hope - Gods hope!!

Jesus is the answer for the world today above Him there's no answer. When you face your challenges with him by your side, all is lighter cause He will hold you and guide you. He will never leave you nor forsake you, even if ur family or society or the world desert u, this is the assurance we have as the children of God. Please Accept Him and He will hold you. Me I have n I know. GOD BLESS.

Dear Brittany, allow Jesus to carry you and your loved ones through all this. He will give all of you the courage to live out this journey. Ask Him to sustain you and your family. He will.

When I heard of Brittany's story, I instantly thought of two people, Kara Tippetts and you Ms Joni - two very brave believers who are in deep pain and suffering yet choose to believe in Jesus and trust His sovereign purpose for their lives. Had you ended your life after your accident, hundreds of thousands wld never hv bn blessed to know and trust Jesus! Praise God that you chose to follow Jesus no matter the cost. May God's grace pursue Brittany til she follows Him too!

Brittany... don't be tempted to do this. Whatever the suffering, Jesus will help you through your pain and when the end does come He will hold your hand and lead you through to heaven to live with Him, forever free from suffering, so trust Him and ask Him into your life and prove how much better things will be... I promise.

I'm in agreement with you Joni that though her situation is rough it's rougher without the Lord to usher her into eternity. Yes I pray that If it's not to late that Brittany would give Jesus a chance after all this is why he died for the hopeless. Jesus said come into me all you who are weary and burden down. I pray that she comes to Jesus

I was wondering what to think of her decision. I am glad Joni wrote this. And I hope and pray, that perhaps Joni or someone would be able to talk to her before she goes through with it. It was wonderfully put Joni, and you certainly would know about pain. Your life is amazing and I glorify God because of you.
