WFTWEarlier this year, our Joni and Friends president, Doug Mazza, along with my husband, Ken, served on a Wheels for the World team in Cuba – they came home so blessed after fitting scores of children with disabilities to new wheelchairs (and their families received Bibles, and the chance to hear the Gospel)!...

Ebenezer posterCongratulations to the Joni and Friends short film “Ebenezer,” winner at the 2016 My Hero International Film Festival! Without words, "Ebenezer" vividly portrays the journey of an old broken-down wheelchair and the many hands that touch the chair as it is given a new purpose and sent across the world to change the life of a young boy in Ghana...

WFTW CubaIn some under-resourced countries, the cost of a wheelchair can equal a year's wages, making it almost impossible for people affected by disability to obtain one. Our Wheels for the World Outreaches deliver wheelchairs to people affected by disability in these countries while spreading the Gospel through the gift of a Bible. In fact, our volunteer teams of disability specialists fit each wheelchair to the recipient and train him/her in its use and upkeep...

KenEarlier this season, my husband served on a Wheels for the World team in Cuba, helping to fit children with disabilities to their new wheelchairs. Before Ken left, I autographed a Spanish Joni book and said to him, "Would you please give this to a little girl in Cuba, and tell her it's from me?"

Paul BuursmaYears ago, back in 1998, I met a little boy with cerebral palsy named Paul Buursma at one of our Joni and Friends’ Family Retreats. He had a smattering of freckles, shiny blonde hair, and the biggest smile I’d ever seen. He also had many physical complications related to his cerebral palsy, all of which required non-stop 24/7 care from his parents, Dirk and Harriet. His siblings, Abby and Nate, also helped out.

That Retreat was such a huge blessing to this family...

And I especially enjoy watching all the little boys and girls with disabilities discover who they are in Christ — God’s wonderful and unique creation! Like little Noah, featured in this video. At Family Retreat, Noah loved his buddy Naomi. The two had all kinds of fun, including singing...
