Meet Makenna
Whenever I travel, I love meeting young people who love Jesus and love serving people with disabilities. And 12-year old Makenna from Souderton, PA fits that bill exactly. Here she is showing me her report "Joni My Hero" -- I was so moved by her words! She can't wait to grow up to become an occupational therapist. She also can't wait to be old enough to serve as a volunteer at one of our Joni and Friends Family Retreats. Wanna join her? then check out our Family Retreat page for all the 'volunteer' details! (And if you want to go one further, drop Makenna a note of encouragement at Joni and Friends/Greater Philadelphia on our area ministries page).
Winding Up our Tour!
Yesterday, on Sunday morning, I spoke at Calvary Church in Souderton, PA and in the evening, at Calvary Chapel Philadelphia -- all three services were packed out and I loved energizing everyone in the need to share Christ with special needs families (one of the churches had over 80 volunteers sign up)! All this at the end of a long and busy trip -- I was AMAZED at the...
A Philadelphia Tradition
So what do we do in Philadelphia on a Saturday night after a long day of ministry outreach?! Philly cheese steaks with fried onions and provolone :-). All thanks to our great team at Joni and friends/greater Philadelphia!
Today's Disability Conference at Biblical Seminary
I just finished speaking a little while ago and am now sitting in the audience with 350 others listening to Jerry Borton open his heart – Jerry is area director for Joni and Friends/Greater Philadelphia. I am so inspired by his message!! I go back on the platform tonight at 7:30 PM so I'll be leaning on your prayers, friend :-)! :-)!
Darrow, The Seeing Eye Dog
On Thursday evening, we enjoyed dinner with the Joni and Friends/Greater Philadelphia team to review the program for tomorrow's conference at Biblical Seminary, Saturday outreach events and my visits to two churches on Sunday. When I met John Hollenbach, Chairman of the JAF/Greater Philadelphia team (who is blind), I also met his Seeing Eye dog, Darrow. Some women have men fall at their feet; I have dogs fall at my feet :-)… And he stole my heart, as well!
'Catching Up' on our Rest Day
It was an incredibly busy week in Nashville with NRB responsibilities -- but last night, our plane made it safely into Philadelphia. Although we will be meeting with the Joni and Friends Greater Philadelphia team this evening, this afternoon is a 'rest' day for us. But I can't be with my traveling buddy Careen without 'borrowing' her extra-fast typing skills to help me keep current with emails and letters needed back at the International Disability Center. Don't worry, though, the...
Thank You for Praying!
I can't thank you enough for interceding for me as I spoke to NRB members at the closing banquet – I sensed the Holy Spirit in such an unusual and wonderful way! And now, we are heading to the airport where Ken and I will fly to Pennsylvania to continue ministry events with our team at Joni and Friends/Greater Philadelphia. We are pretty tired so ask God to give us deep, peaceable rest tonight when we get to our hotel. Thanks much, dear friend!!
Family Life Interview
Ken and I just completed a very candid interview with Dennis Rainey and Bob Lupine of Family Life Today – it was candid in that Ken and I shared stories from our new book that, up until this point, we haven't talked about in public. But we both believe that the insights offered over the air will definitely inspire the listeners! Tonight I am speaking at the NRB closing banquet – please be...
Sunday's Hymn Sing
Sunday night we held our seventh annual NRB Hymn sing with about 350 people attending – it was an hour and a half of rousing, hearty hymns with everyone harmonizing to the hilt. "Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Singing and making music in your heart to the Lord!" (Ephesians 519-20) Thanks so much for praying, friends...
NRB Board Meeting Today
Since we’re now in Nashville for the NRB convention, I want to introduce you to our radio team: Tatiana (on the left) is our communications coordinator and provides leadership to our Spanish radio outreach. Rainey (on the right) is our communications manager and is responsible for the entire radio department. Behind me is Jim Sanders, president of Ambassador Agency, and producer of the "Joni and Friends" radio program (we’ve been working together for over 30 years). Between the four...
