PerspectiveBirds overcome the lower law of gravity by the higher law of flight. And what is true for birds is true for the soul. Souls that soar on wings like eagles overcome the lower law of sin and death. Hannah Whitall Smith writes, “The ‘law of the spirit of life in...

Space at The TableI grew up in a family of six, and when dinnertime rolled around and Mother would call that dinner was served… we would all run to our place at the table. We each had our own space — it was like we were assigned a place. Daddy sat at the head of the table, Kathy was over there with Jay next to her, Linda was at the far end, and...

Cultivating a Heart of GratitudeHappy Lord’s Day! This morning, as Ken and I were getting ready for church, we stopped my regular ‘bed bath-exercise’ routine for a minute to pray at the side of my bed. We gave thanks to the Lord. Yes, we were tired. Yes, I had a difficult night of pain. And yes, it was another day of quadriplegia and my same morning routine...

My Utmost for His HighestWhen I came to Christ in high school, I wondered what resource I could use alongside the Bible in my quiet time. That's when a Christian friend gave me the devotional classic, My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers. During World War I, Chambers was a chaplain to soldiers stationed in Egypt; My Utmost for His Highest is a compilation of his Bible teachings and was first published in 1935. Because Chambers' book was significant in my early walk with Christ, I recently served as a contributor to Utmost Ongoing… Reflections on the Legacy of Oswald Chambers...

In Whose Life Do You Live? The university gymnasium is packed, and from the platform, I can see every student. The microphone works fine. I can see my notes. But something is wrong. I am only ten minutes into my message, but there’s a restlessness in the air. The faces of...

My Amazon Echo

Every day, I start off my morning with coffee, range of motion exercises, prayer — and a little music. I call out to my Amazon Echo, “Hey Alexa … play music,” and with just the sound of my voice, it listens to my command and begins playing a tune. And oh, how uplifting it is to hear the soft, piano keys of Mary Beth Carlson or the truth-filled lyrics of a classic hymn. This little “hands-free” gadget has been a true gem in my home.  And it reminds me of John 10:27, where Jesus says, “My sheep hear my voice.” If only we were as obedient, as quick to act upon the commands of our Lord and Savior. But instead, we toy with sin and turn a deaf ear. Oh friend, let’s not be slow, stubborn sheep. When God’s Word tells you, “forgive” — do it! When the Holy Spirit nudges you with the truth, don’t lie. As Psalm 19 says, “The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes … in keeping them there is great reward.”

In 2010, while in Afghanistan on his second Marine Corps tour of duty, Rob was tasked with clearing an area that contained buried IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices). As a combat engineer...

Your Prayers Needed!During our last busy day of recording “Joni and Friends” radio, I turned my script and … in between pages, I found a heartfelt note of heaven-sent encouragement from a former Cause 4 Life intern, Jessica (pictured on the right). She wrote: “Praise God that you are still able to record radio. Praying today for sound minds, open hearts...
