Assisted SuicideCanada now has an assisted-suicide law – but not without some controversy. And that controversy centers on people with disabilities. On June 17, The Canadian Press couldn't help but put its liberal slant on the issue when it wrote "Canadians suffering intolerably from non-terminal medical conditions [a.k.a...

Joni RadioTomorrow is recording day and I would love your prayers. Recording days are pretty physically demanding for me. The best scenario is a good night sleep tonight, full breath, a strong voice and a pain-free day tomorrow. And most importantly, that God would empower the words I record to bring hope...

Paul BuursmaYears ago, back in 1998, I met a little boy with cerebral palsy named Paul Buursma at one of our Joni and Friends’ Family Retreats. He had a smattering of freckles, shiny blonde hair, and the biggest smile I’d ever seen. He also had many physical complications related to his cerebral palsy, all of which required non-stop 24/7 care from his parents, Dirk and Harriet. His siblings, Abby and Nate, also helped out.

That Retreat was such a huge blessing to this family...

Jesus Shines His LightLate yesterday afternoon I wheeled into our boardroom at the Joni and Friends International Disability Center, a little weary from the day's work, and in need of refreshment for my heart. Immediately, I looked through the glass wall and saw the Luke 14 mural down in the lobby -- I was struck by the brightness of Jesus' figure.

Right then, I sensed Him whisper, "Come to me all you who are weary and heavy laden… and I will give you rest." Your everyday life is filled with evidences of...

Patricia OliverMy friend Pat has multiple sclerosis and has been part of a clinical trial for a new MS medication – she has seen positive results. This year, the FDA finally gave the drug its 'breakthrough therapy designation' for people with progressive multiple sclerosis – if you have either progressive or relapsing MS, talk to your doctor about this new FDA-approved drug. And please pray for Pat and so many like her who struggle with this debilitating condition; may this new medication be the first of many that eventually make multiple sclerosis a thing of the...

Joni and JenRecently my good friend Jen Barrick, and her parents Linda and Andy, came by the International Disability Center for a quick visit (and an interview on my radio program). This photo is of Jen and her beautiful smile that is continually radiating the love of Christ to all who encounter her. Jen’s life exemplifies Philippians 4:4 “Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice!” Life has not been easy for Jen; she and her family were in a terrible car accident 9 ½ years ago and it left Jen in a coma for 5 weeks. Although her body...

Ghana IFRI just learned of an urgent prayer request regarding our upcoming International Family Retreat in Ghana – yesterday a violent storm hit Cape Coast destroying homes and property. Roofs were blown off and there is a lot of water damage. Cape Coast is where we are planning to have our International Family Retreat. I have personally been to Ghana and I know the needs among special needs families are great - this retreat would bring so much to them including the gospel of Christ. With the retreat only...
