Hope for the Heart AppWhat in the world does God have in store for us in 2017? Just as last year was filled with joys and sorrows, celebrations and challenges, chances are 2017 will be the same. And one thing we have learned is there will always be opportunities to encourage others. So, this year, as we prepare to serve the Lord, and one another...

Collaborating with ministry partners is a big deal at Joni and Friends. Ephesians 4:16 says that “As each part [of Christ’s body] does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow…”. In other words, the best ideas emerge when we come together to share our knowledge and experiences about disability ministry. Having a variety of input helps us understand concepts we wouldn’t grasp without each other. It’s the point behind the Summer Institute on Theology and Disability to be held at Azusa Pacific University June 5-8. And I am thrilled to be giving the keynote address at this annual event in Azusa, California. The Institute will bring together a diverse group of scholars, practitioners, clergy, and others who are passionate about inclusive ministries. The ultimate goal is to learn how the church can better include the gifts, needs, and contributions of those affected by disability. The Summer Institute’s goal is to not only impact the church, but our culture – it’s why my plenary address is centered around disability and social injustice. What is the Bible calling us to do? Find the answers by taking part in this special Summer Institute. Get all the details at Theology ...

A Spectacle of GloryThis week, Christianity Today is running excerpts from my new devotional, A Spectacle of Glory. It’s perfect timing too, with the new year just around the corner. Personally, I love to begin a fresh year with a new devotional book. It’s a great way to increase in wisdom and insight so that we can grow in our knowledge of God, just as Paul prayed in Ephesians 1:17. If you’re like me and are looking for a fresh devotional for the year, visit Christianity Today and...

Ben HulinMost people would not even consider participating in an Ironman Race. Any one of the three legs – 2.4 mileswim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run – requires a tremendous amount of strength and training. But Ben Hulin, even though a paraplegic, was not deterred. After seven months of training, Ben successfully competed in the Louisville Ironman Race. He did, however, make a few adjustments – he told me, “I swim normally but have no leg kick, so I wear a wet suit and strap my legs together...

Family RetreatFinally, this part of the Midwest experienced a long-awaited Family Retreat that gave families a safe and welcoming place to relax, refresh, and create cherished memories. This mom and her kids reveled in the hayride, an evening campfire with s’mores, archery, a 25-foot rock climbing wall, and a zip...

Getty's Kids HymnalI'll never forget, as a kid, sitting around the campfire on the beach with my family and singing hymns – leaning back and looking up at the stars while singing “Great is Thy Faithfulness” implanted in my heart so many promises of God. Many years later, after I broke my neck, the words to those hymns sustained me through months of pain and turmoil. Stanzas of hymns were a lifeline during those first years after my accident. And today, whether I'm glad or gloomy, I can easily lean on the timeless words of hymns to give expression to all that’s in my heart...

WFTWEarlier this year, our Joni and Friends president, Doug Mazza, along with my husband, Ken, served on a Wheels for the World team in Cuba – they came home so blessed after fitting scores of children with disabilities to new wheelchairs (and their families received Bibles, and the chance to hear the Gospel)!...

RecordingToday we finish out 2016 by recording the last of my radio programs for this year (and next May will mark 35 years I’ve been on the radio)! Although many things have changed since I first started – like our recording facilities – the message hasn’t. God is the same yesterday, today and forever, and I’ll never be able to...

Joni and KenThe other day Ken and I were digging through files, and we found an old video copy of a 1984 interview we did on local TV here in LA. When we watched “The Love Report,” we shook our heads in amazement at God's faithfulness to us through so many years – we had to laugh; we looked so YOUNG in this video from more than three decades ago!

The Blessed JourneyYears ago I recorded a beautiful Christmas album, Whiter than Snow (a few copies are available on e-bay and amazon). It’s such a unique collection of Christmas songs with fascinating arrangements, and this season I find myself singing along with this special...
