Joni with the Jackson boardThe Joni and Friends Jackson team is doing a fantastic job of church and respite training, Luke 14 dinners, and planning for the first Joni and Friends Family Retreat in this section of the country -- and I'm so proud that so many people with disabilities and special needs moms and dads are a part of the leadership! Today is a pastor's luncheon and the Mississippi Baptist...

Joni sharing her testimony with students
We started out this morning in Jackson at Christ Covenant School where I shared my testimony with the entire academy -- and a great chance to hob nob with the eighth graders afterward. I love stirring young hearts to trust Jesus in whatever hardship...and now...we are heading to Millsaps College for a presentation on our Beyond Suffering course! Am feeling your prayers :-)

Joni on the bus liftIt’s 24 degrees! Thankfully our hotel bus had an accessible lift that worked. (And we got to the airport in time). Quite a difference from our arrival to Nashville -- we waited at the airport for 2 1/2 hours until finally we took an accessible taxi. But it was okay -- I shared my testimony with two bus drivers, a cab driver, and airport sky cap.

Arthur and child with disability at Family Retreat reunionLast week, 92 people with special needs and their families gathered in Southern California for a ‘reunion’ of last summer’s Murrieta Hot Springs Family Retreat – the idea for the reunion was birthed by Angela Hsieh, one of our long-time STMs who serves alongside her parents (Arthur, her dad, is pictured here). The entire Hsieh family provide such wonderful leadership to our SoCal Family Retreat! The families were overwhelmed by the warm welcome, food trucks, games and times of inspiration. After the reunion, one dad of a son with autism wrote, “My son's erratic behavior had almost isolated us socially. And for such a special occasion that Angela had envisioned, it was a big respite to all of us. I thank God for Christians like you who had the burden to care for special needs people. May God bless you!” Get in on the fun by signing up to serve as an STM at an upcoming Family Retreat!

Joni with songwriters Bruce Broughton and Dennis SpiegelAlthough I am still in Nashville for the NRB Convention, I learned that CBN broadcasted a fascinating feature today on the “Alone Yet Not Alone” song – they even interviewed the composer and the lyricist (the ones who were originally up for an Oscar). Take a look and share it with friends!

Joni and Ken being interviewedHere we are with a station manager from Montgomery, AL, promoting the Joni and Friends Family Retreat to be held in Alabama this summer! It's fun not only talking up Joni and Friends ministry, but making Jesus famous wherever we go... and now, we're heading for a coffee break! Thanks for praying for my energy... I'm powering on your prayers!

Joni and Ken being interviewed at NRBThanks for your prayers today! All day Monday is full of interviews - and that means a chance to not only talk about Joni and Friends, but the goodness and graciousness of our wonderful Savior. It's a long day with few breaks, and hardly a time for a meal, so thank you for interceding!

Joni singingI am so honored that the National Religious Broadcasters have asked me to sing at this morning’s worship service at the NRB Convention – and the song they picked is “Alone Yet Not Alone.” I'm amazed that so many people are still expressing interest in this haunting and beautiful ballad. Also this morning, Tommy Walker will be leading worship (my favorite all-time worship leader). I join you and millions of Christians around the world this morning who are lifting up praise and thanksgiving to our awesome God on this, the Lord's Day. Happy Sunday, friend!

NRB logoFor more than 30 years, I have served on the Board of Directors of the National Religious Broadcasters – and today in Nashville, we will be holding our annual board meeting. Doug Mazza, president of Joni and Friends, also serves on the board. Freedom on US airwaves for Christian broadcasting is being squeezed more than ever, and we need your prayers. Ask God to give us wisdom for the important decisions before us – may God's plans and purposes be fulfilled, and may the lifeline of Christian radio remain open so that the Gospel of Jesus can touch more listeners. Thank you for praying, friend!

Joni and KenFor the last couple of months, Ken and I have enjoyed staying home and catching up with things at Joni and Friends – but this morning, we are heading out on an 11 day ministry trip. Our first stop is Nashville where I will be participating in the National Religious Broadcasters Convention (lots and lots of interviews lined up). Then next Wednesday, we fly to Mississippi for eight big events hosted by Joni and Friends Jackson. It will be a hugely busy schedule, and Ken and I (along with my on-the-go-girls) will be praying constantly for health, strength, rest, joy, and anointed messages for each interview and speaking engagement. We are leaning on Psalm 84:4 and 7, "Blessed are those whose strength is in you, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage.…They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion." Make that your verse this week, too! And don't forget to visit my blog for updates :-).
