Following Jesus in 2015

Jesus and His DisciplesI’m intrigued by the way Jesus called his disciples. In every Gospel account, Jesus called them using two short words: “Follow me.” That is, don’t look back; don’t say you want to first bury your dead, or try out the oxen you purchased; don’t say goodbye to your family. Rather, follow me. So many of us today, however, think Jesus is saying, “Why don't you try following me two or three days a week, and see how it feels?… See if it works for you.” Friend...

Wheels for the World Facebook postMy friend Donna posted this little wheelchair on her Facebook page, inviting her friends and family to help sponsor pediatric wheelchairs for Wheels for the World. I think it's a great idea! We have 22 Wheels outreach trips planned for 2015, all of which require lot of wheelchairs :-). Think about...

Kathy, Joni and KenMy sister Kathy has arrived – it means lots of sweet sisterly moments reflecting on childhood Christmases, as well as having her 'hands' to help me bake, return things to the mall, and maybe clean out a few closets to get my house in order for 2015. The older I get, the more I treasure times with my siblings (when we were kids on...

Isaiah 9:6Isaiah 9:6 is the one of the most powerful Christmas promises in Scripture – just think, God gives to us (that's you and me) a Savior, a Rescuer, a Healer! If we are confused or depressed, He's our Wonderful Counselor. If we are weak and defenseless, He's our Mighty God. If we feel orphaned or abandoned, He is our Everlasting Father. And if there is conflict in our soul, He is our Prince of Peace. As Ken and I head to church this evening for Christmas Eve services, we will be thinking of you – and so many others – who are celebrating the incredibly awesome gift our Heavenly Father has given us through His Son, Jesus. Have a wonderful Christmas Eve!

Christmas Truce of 1914My husband Ken and I are World War I history buffs – I've always been fascinated by the Christmas truce of 1914 when the sounds of exploding shells faded along the Western Front in a gesture of goodwill between German and British soldiers. Although an ad, this video captures the essence of what happened that day (once when I visited the Imperial War Museum in London, I read actual letters written by British soldiers giving first-hand testimony of...

Christmas Breakfast for the Post OfficeThe Post Office in Agoura Hills works hard – they process thousands of letters and packages for Joni and Friends. It's why I'm so proud of Janet Didone, manager of JAF's Supply Chain, and her wonderful team (that's Janet on the right). They have a heart to showcase the love of Christ to all our community vendors, especially the Post Office. So last Friday morning, Janet and her crew fixed a big, sumptuous Christmas breakfast for all the postal workers at the Agoura Hills office. Janet told me, "Everywhere we go, we have the opportunity to share the Gospel!" And isn't that what Christmas is all about :-).
