joni with paige and tysonMeet Paige (on the left) and Tyson Snedeker -- these two exceptional young people serve on my prayer team and I feel so honored that they intercede faithfully for our ministry. They both have a rare genetic condition (so rare, in fact, it has no name); they are quadriplegics, deaf, tube-fed, ventilator-dependent and nearly blind (to communicate, you have to hand-sign very close to their eyes). But they LOVE Jesus with a passion! Which is why today, we'll be filming a Joni and Friends TV episode to highlight their awesome testimonies. As the cameras roll for our interview, please ask God to give them "words" that will exalt our Savior and bless the viewer. My favorite verse for Paige and Tyson? "You, Lord, hear the desire of the afflicted;you encourage them, and you listen to their cry" (Psalm 10:17). I love it that God cups His ear to hear these two when they pray. Drop them a line today on my blog and we'll pass it on!

Painting For My Planner

Joni paintingJoni's 2014 Planner
Okay, have you seen the post over on the Joni and Friends blog that shows my new 2014 Planner? If you haven't, take a minute and look at the painting I did for the cover. It was my one-and-only 'success' with watercolors :-). It's hard enough trying to control wet, runny colors when you're holding the brushes with your hands; but with a mouth? It's virtually impossible. But I did it (or I should say, God's grace steadying my jaw did it :-). And see the wings of that snowy egret in flight? I took a deep breath...

My Favorite “Freeway” Music

Careen and Joni getting in the vanWhile Ken was on a ministry trip last week, my traveling partner, Careen, was in town to help out – every time we climbed into the van and headed down the 101 Freeway to Joni and Friends, we made it a ‘sanctuary of praise,’ singing to God at the top of our lungs! Our preferred cut on the CD playlist? No doubt, it was my favorite old Anglican hymn “Rejoice, the Lord is King!” But this rendition sounds nothing like my childhood in the Reformed Episcopal Church – click on this link and enjoy Tommy Walker giving it an upbeat, fresh, new sound while honoring those timeless lyrics and melody. Then… tell me what you think here on my blog!

Caity's Baptism

Family Retreat always means powerful ministry, not only to disabled children and their parents, but to the volunteers (STMs) who serve with us. Take what happened to Caity. Even though she professed Christ to be her Savior, Caity lacked the power to say 'no' to certain sinful choices and habits – she was living a 'double life.' Shortly before Family Retreat, however, Caity experienced a true release from her ungodly behavior; for the first time in a long time, she knew she was free. When she came to Camp Allen Family Retreat to volunteer, Caity witnessed firsthand how God was helping special-needs families overcome incredible challenges – and that really spoke to her. When Pastor Phil (our camp pastor) asked if she'd like to be baptized one evening after volunteer-debriefing, Caity jumped at the chance. Take a moment and be blessed by her testimony, because here's one girl who's left the 'double life' behind… and has found a true passion to serve her Savior!
