Bible and chronological reading scheduleOver the last day or so, I have really enjoyed reading your many comments about the book of First Chronicles, the third chapter. Some of you shared some fascinating insights -- Debi reminded me that this same Nathan is mentioned in the genealogy of Mary recorded in Luke. Lindy shared the interesting observation that David reigned as king in Jerusalem 33 years, the same number of years as Jesus' earthly ministry. Your encouragements about 'reading through the Bible in a year' are so special -- and if any of you want to join Ken and me, you can easily download the chronological reading schedule here! God bless you and keep up the reading.

A Fascinating Fact from our Bible Reading

Ken and Joni reading through the BibleAs you may know, Ken and I are reading through the Bible in a year – we're currently in First Chronicles. For me, this book has always been challenging; it's an endless litany of lineages, each with names that require a linguistics degree to pronounce. But in the third chapter, we stumbled across something I hadn't noticed before. First Chronicles 3:4-6 says, "David reigned in Jerusalem thirty-three years, and these were the children born to him there: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan and Solomon. These four were by Bathsheba daughter of Ammiel." When I spotted the name of Nathan, it struck me: David and Bathsheba named their second born after the very prophet who nailed David for his sin of adultery and murder. To me, it spoke volumes about the depth of David's repentance and humility. Little wonder he was known as a man after God's heart… and, oh, that we would be the same! If you are reading through the Bible with us, be encouraged: we are a third of the way through, friend!

Group at Peru International Family RetreatToday is the first day of our International Family Retreat being held down in Peru – 26 special-needs families, 26 volunteers, 9 Family Retreat experts from the US, and great speakers and Bible teachers! I am excited that so many Peruvian pastors and their churches are involved in this Family Retreat (oh, Lord Jesus, may they catch the vision). Join me this weekend in praying that the Holy Spirit will open the hearts of these special-needs families, lifting depression, mending marriages, and bringing people with disabilities to a saving knowledge of Jesus. God bless you for interceding, friend!

Joni with servicemanWhenever we are in airports, we always encounter men and women in uniform, either heading home or heading out overseas. Today as we were heading for our gate here in the Atlanta airport, we encountered this young man – we shared with him how we love praying for the brave men and women in the US military! So please join us in doing the same today :-). And should the Spirit nudge you, pray for our flight as we had to LAX – for clear skies, safety as we travel, and happy hearts in Jesus!

Ken waving in the car rear view mirrorThat's Ken in the driver's seat (with windshield wipers on) getting ready to start up the engine to head down the highway from Chattanooga, Tennessee to the airport in Atlanta. After a busy ten-day ministry trip filled with wonderful opportunities to serve Jesus, we are on our way home. It's raining so please be praying for safety as we travel. And, of course, that our flight to LAX tomorrow won't be delayed :-). So grateful for your partnership in prayer!!

We left Bryan College yesterday with full hearts and arrived last night in Chattanooga with great expectations for what God will do in this last leg of our journey. This morning we were up early to head to the studios of the John Ankerberg Show. I had a blessed time video-taping three TV programs with Dr. Michael Easley, former president of Moody Bible Institute. Michael has degenerative disc disease and deals with chronic pain day in and day out. The topic for the programs? How and why we can trust our sovereign God, no matter how challenging our circumstances. First Peter 4:19 says, "Those who suffer according to the will of God should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue...

joni preparing to speakIt's just minutes before I wheel to the platform to speak to the students here at Bryan College – we're pretty excited that people from the community have been invited to come, as well. Thanks for praying for Holy Spirit anointing on my message as I energize these young people to take the Gospel of Jesus to more disabled people!

I am so excited about a special event coming up in May – it’s our Through the Roof Disability Ministry Summit scheduled for Saturday, May 18, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The entire day is going to be a fantastic time of learning, networking and loads of fellowship (why not, with 18 workshops ranging from autism to family dynamics with a disability)! My friend, Emily Colson, will start things off in the morning, and I'll be giving the closing plenary that afternoon (so if you have friends in LA, tell them to come...

I have been so blessed to read the many comments about my NRB message from friends on Facebook, my blog, and YouTube viewers – as you may know, I had it posted on Joni's Corner for quite a while. This week will be the last time I'll have it up, so if you haven't already watched this 40 minute message (and you're wondering what I mean by God squeezing lemons :-), then carve out some time to give it a look this week. "Tell them they'll be blessed," my husband Ken just said :-).

"Pressing On" at the Guatemala Family Retreat...

games being played at guatemala family retreatThis week completed our Family Retreat in Guatemala where volunteers served 17 special needs families, many of whom turned to Christ for salvation! Initially, when our team arrived to set up for the Retreat, there was great opposition: the roads to the retreat site were blocked by protesters. Then, the bus bringing the families was delayed because a high tension electric pole fell across the road. Finally, when Family Retreat got underway, then the lights went out – but thankfully, a generator provided power for the sound system and the entire camp worshiped with all their heart and strength! (Such is life in a developing nation :-). It gave fresh meaning to the theme for our retreat "Press On!" Please be praying that the adversary will be defeated in the lives of these needy families and that Christ will be exalted in all their hearts!
