I am always inspired to read reports from Joni and Friends Family Retreats in developing nations – here's a look at special-needs families being welcomed at the recent retreat in Cameroon, West Africa. These needy families are considered social 'misfits' and outcasts, so you can imagine how their hearts gladly opened to the Gospel of Jesus and His love. We have other International Family Retreats scheduled soon, including one in Cuba. Join me in praying for the success of the Gospel!

joni and francie and jayMy sister Jay Kay (on the right) has been visiting Ken and me for the last week, and although we've been at Joni and Friends doing projects, on Tuesday we decided to skip work and garden :-). Of course, I had to ask Francie (my secretary-with-the-green-thumb) to join us. After a visit to the local nursery, Jay got out the shovel, Francie donned her gloves, and we planted lavender and succulents in the backyard. I say "we," because I...

Turn Your Radio on!

joni and ken in the radio studioOn Monday morning, we head into the studio to record more "Joni and Friends" radio programs – yes, it's that time again already! Thirty 4 min. programs and 51 1 min. programs. Researching and writing for radio takes up the bulk of my time at Joni and Friends, but I love it. It's a great excuse to dig deep into God's word and discover more of his insights and wisdom. But today? I'll be recording all that I've learned; it's an all-day affair, so please ask God to give me lots of lung power… energy, alertness, a pain-free day, and that we glorify the Savior :-). I'm so grateful I can lean on your intercessions!

joni in her radio studio drinking waterIt's late in the afternoon and we just finished a full day of recording radio programs for "Joni and Friends" (you can always listen in by visiting my radio page). An enormous amount of energy is always expended on radio recording day, and today was no exception -- but, oh, did I feel your prayers! I had lots of lung power, a totally pain-free day, great joy, and a strong sense that God is going to use these...

Is Your Life a Puzzle?

drawing of joniI was going through my art files and found this pencil drawing that an artist-friend rendered of me after my diving accident – it was the late 60s, I was a 19-year-old quadriplegic, and I was just beginning to dig into God's Word to try to figure out the puzzle of my suffering. What did my search of Scripture show me? Wisdom is not the ability to figure out the puzzle pieces of your life and how they fit. Rather, wisdom is trusting God even when things don't fit; even when lots of the pieces remain missing. But aren't you glad Jesus will complete our life puzzle on the other side of eternity?! And it'll be beautiful! Oh, what a day of rejoicing that will be! Post your reflections on my blog, and rejoice with me!!

Fly-fishing: The Art of Deception

fly fishing bannerken tada holding a fish he caughtYesterday Ken returned from a week of fly-fishing on Montana's Madison River – he came home, telling me all about which fly he used to catch which fish. It reminded me of a photo my friend Kara sent me this past spring – it was a banner for an exhibit called “The Art of Deception” (the exhibit featured all kinds of lures for fly-fishing, but it was the title that caught Kara's eye :-). How do we catch a fish? By creating a lure that most closely resembles a real bug/grasshopper/insect – the more life-like the copy, the better the chance of fooling a smart fish! So how does Satan entrap us? The same...

becky sehenuk and joni eareckson tadaI'm pretty excited that Joni and Friends just printed my new Planner for 2013. I keep mine open on my bedroom dresser where, every week, my get-up and get-down girls schedule themselves in -- there are about 9 or 10 women who, on any given day or night, come to our house to either help get me up in the morning, or help me get ready for bed at night (this is Becky, a get-down girl, checking the schedule). It's such a handy planner and this year, I filled it with lots of my favorite quotations and Scriptures about cultivating a thankful spirit to the Lord. My thanks to the team at Joni and Friends for doing a great job at helping me put the new 2013 Planner together! Take a look at it in our store :-)

Through the Bible...

Our Through-the-Bible-in-a-Year schedule has us well into the Book of Jeremiah, and reading it is like handling a sharp scalpel. Whenever I become lazy about sin, I find that all 52 chapters quickly deflate my complacency. In Jeremiah, God’s Word hits hard! I mean, when it comes to our sinful tendencies, who wants to be likened to a wild donkey in heat sniffing the wind?! Yes, it's humiliating to be chastened by the Holy Spirit that we are not as wise or winsome, loving, long-suffering, or merciful as we thought – that we are, in fact, greedy sinners. But when the Spirit scrutinizes your soul, there's something refreshing about confessing and leaving sinful ways behind. So onward and upward as together we Read-Through-the-Bible-in-a-Year (that's my quad-buddy David and his friend Ana, who are also reading with us)! Have you sloughed off? Don't worry; just pick it up where we are now and together we will finish strong. Here's the schedule :-).

boy wearing an olympics jacketKen and I sure have been enjoying the London Games – we've been switching on NBC every night (and I may well go into Olympic withdrawal after Sunday :-). Of course, my husband, being the competitive guy that he is, is LOVING that the U.S. is on the top of medal table. But, oh, that we would "train ourselves in godliness" like Allyson Felix trains for the 200 m, right?! First Corinthians 9:25 says, "Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever." Yep, we want that forever-crown :-)! By the way, this is my nephew, Tyler, wearing my Dad's 1932 Olympic jacket...

A Wedding Shower for my friend, Danelle

danelle kelley with Joni and ken tadaDanelle serves as executive assistant to our president and administrator here at Joni and Friends, and does a great job at it! Earlier this week, we held a wedding shower for her during staff lunch break (the big day is only a week or so away). Because Danelle loves animal prints, all of us decided to wear something zebra or leopard-like – except that Ken has absolutely no animal print shirts in his closet (why would he?!). So to fit the theme, he decided to don his hunting jacket and a bear hat! We had a great time (with all the lions and tigers and bears, oh my)! All of us here at the ministry congratulate Danelle as...
